Design Ventura
Brand Identity & Publications | Exhibition |

Design Ventura is the Design Museum and Deutsche Bank’s flagship learning project, it’s an opportunity for students to develop design thinking, creative and business capabilities and employability skills. Students in years 9, 10 and 11 are tasked to design and create a new product to be sold in the Design Museum shop.

We were invited to create the identity, promotional materials, trophy and exhibition for the tenth year of Design Ventura.

The visual identity is born from the humble starting point of the design process — the gridded sketchbook paper.

The isometric grid is made up of V’s and becomes the canvas to celebrate creativity and the endless
opportunities it offers.

‘Make Your Mark’ became the campaign strapline inviting students to make their mark both physically in their sketchbooks and also in their future careers. The isometric grid also provided a canvas for a variety of striking typographic treatments.

A suite of eclectic isometric illustrations demonstrated the possibilities that can come from the pages of a sketchbook.

A range of promotional materials including brochures and posters were created to advertise the initiative to schools.

Sustainability was a key theme in this years brief, so the trophy was created using Smile Plastics unique materials made from recycled yoghurt pots as well as pencils made from recycled CD cases.

On February 13th the Design Museum welcomed the shortlisted schools to the announcement event where the awards were presented by the judges: Katie Greenyer, Morag Myerscough and Joseph Halligan.

We designed and installed an exhibition in the Design Museum’s striking atrium to celebrate winning and highly commended entries.

Past winners prototypes and final products are celebrated in a special display to mark the tenth year of Design Ventura.

An interactive area allowed visitors to tackle the Design Ventura brief themselves and submit entries for a chance to win a weekly prize.

A huge congratulations to 2019 winners, Twynham School with their entry Design Cubes — A dice game that helps people generate design ideas and combats creative block.
